FNWF February 2014

I had forgotten that I needed space in my schedule for linkies I joined in with last year. I have to keep joining in with FNWF. I can't believe how big it is now.

With the excuse of company Friday night I decided to make a cake. Turns out is was just me and hubby here to eat it and I nearly forgot to get a picture of the finished cake. I salvaged a couple of neat slices for a picture this morning.

I have posted the recipe and some making photos on my Books I am Reading blog since the recipe comes from one of my favourite recipe books.

I decided I would work on my next scrappy star for FNWF. It was dark by the time I got into the sewing room yesterday and it was a bit hard choosing colours. I hoped they would still look all right in the morning.
I had to delve into my smalls box since it called for 3" squares and my scraps are too scrappy to make into neat squares. It also needed quite a lot of the one fabric for the background. I only managed to cut all the pieces last night and had to get up this morning to at least have something respectable for a FNWF post.

I have started the In the Garden BOM and had a pile of scraps that needed a bit of sorting so I can work on that some more today. This is my rental house sewing room.

Much more organised now.

I sewed all the HST for the scrappy star.

This is what it will be like. Seems to be a couple of holes to fill there.

I have mentioned on a few posts that I have moved house. We sold up our acreage in Brisbane and have moved to the beach further north. The beach is a couple of minutes walk away. This was yesterday morning. I don't mean to rub it in but it has been such a long time coming and we are thrilled to be here.

I am cooking breakfast as I write this - pancakes to have with yoghurt and blueberries. I will make myself a coffee after breakfast and post the cake recipe before posting this. Then I will spend some time checking out what the rest of you have been up to.

Welcome to the North Pole - 2014

Ho! Ho! Ho!
A whole year since I first got this book. I have made a good start on my version of the quilt but just had to lay it aside while I tried to move house without stressing too much.

There have been lots of people keen to be part of the SAL for 2014 so here we are again. I invite anyone who still has some work to do from last year to stay with us and anyone who wants to pick up a UFO or start new is welcome to join in.

On the 4th Wednesday of each month you will need to do a blog post or upload a photo to flickr. Since linkies are just a fabulous way to share and archive project progress I will set up a linky to show off what you have done on my 4th Wednesday post.

When I first found this book I looked around quite a lot and eventually found one or two quilts that people had made several years ago. I was quite excited to see that number 11 link on the 1st page for a google search was a valspierssews post about this pattern. No wonder more people are finding the SAL. It is such a great pattern it deserves to be found.

This year since my quilt is in storage for 6 months (I only brought Go Wild with me to the rental house) I am going to make the little wall hanging and because it is only small I am going to practice my needle turn applique. The wall hanging is on the back cover. I have started to cut out some freezer paper shapes in readiness. I am off to Spotlight on Tuesday to get some night sky background fabric.

Fresh Sewing Day January Project Mosaic

I didn't get a lot done in January since I was trying to pack up the house. I did make a couple of little things and I am so pleased with the tea towels that I made into mats and coasters. I worked quite hard on my Go Wild quilt but I will do a separate update on that later. I have been quite interested in the Linkies available this year and see it as a challenge to keep up with the ones I have started with so far. I may have to draw the line now though.

WIP Wednesday Sew Kitschy BoM

I have been admiring all the lovely paper pieced blocks being sewn and decided I should seriously give it a go. I have gotten myself fairly well organised this year using Mom's Toolbelt printables so I feel I can work on several of the great BOMS I have found and keep it all organised. Sew Kitschy is a collection of fabulous kitchen appliances all paper pieced. I have just caught up and now have two blocks done. I only need to stitch 'Cookies' on the cookie jar.

It has been a lovely warm day here in Wide Bay. We have been here for a week now and it still feels a bit strange to be living in a new place but it feels really good to have selling the house behind me. I snapped this pretty sunset this evening.
